Be prepared to be shocked this is an R18+ movie and it deserves that rating. It was filmed in 19 days starting in July 2017. It is a fearlessly true-to-the-fact biography of Mapplethorpe.
This is the story of Robert Mapelthorpe’s life. Srating from when he quit college to his death of AIDS in March 1989.
From his time with Patti Smith they were lovers. Patti supported Robert during his early years as an artist.
Sam Wagstaff is there as his lover, mentor and patron. Many of the scenes revolve around their relationship and Sam’s death.
Many of his lovers come and go through the movie
There are many of Mapplethorpe’s pictures depicted in the movie and it can be confronting as not only did Mapplethorpe shoot flowers he also did BSDM and gay culture. and these are shown quite frequently throughout the movie.
As a historical depiction of Robert’s life, this is a great movie.
